The French call it "La Fleur d'Orange", the "Orange Blossom",
but, with only 160 acres in all of California, Orange Muscat is
rarely seen here. It rewards those who seek it out with an
abundantly fruity, crisply refreshing white wine. Breezy Mendocino
is an ideal home for this delicate, early-ripening variety that is
most expressive when allowed to ripen slowly. 2007 presented a
nearly textbook vintage with months of mild, dry days, and cool,
foggy nights allowing ample time for peak flavor concentration and
providing an excellent sugar-to-acid balance.
State Lane Wines
This beautifully perfumed Orange Muscat is one of the first
releases from our new State Lane line of wines. When Goosecross
Proprietor and in-house chef, Colleen Topper decided to create a
line of food-friendly wines to complement her extensive recipe
database, she was thinking about the every-day cook and wanted to
offer affordable wines for every-day enjoyment. And, she wanted to
feature a special line of limited-production wines, available to
Wineries of Napa Valley customers only.
Goosecross Winemaker, Geoff Gorsuch, collaborated with Colleen to
locate the right grape sources to suit the concept and he carefully
crafted a selection of wines that are fruit-forward, fun and easy
on the pocket book.
Winemaker notes
The grapes were hand-harvested early in the morning and gently
pressed, while still cool. The juice was fermented slowly, at low
temperatures, producing a wine that's intensely perfumed yet,
seemingly, as light as air. Vibrantly fruity and aromatic, it’s
bursting with sweet orange blossom, honeysuckle, exotic lychee and
fresh melon. An enticing sweetness accentuates the lush floral and
tropical flavors, finishing with a mouthwatering kiss of
citrus.
Food Suggestions
The sweet, delicate flavors marry beautifully with fruit-based
desserts such as lemon cheesecake, raspberry tart or a fresh, ripe
strawberry dipped in dark chocolate! Served with a selection of
cheeses and seasonal fruit, our Orange Muscat is the perfect
partner to take along on a picnic. Geoff loves it with Colleen's
recipe for Fruit Pizza (goosecross.com). Or, just enjoy it all by
itself at the end of a long day. Bon appétit!
